Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy [BCST] is an advanced therapy that combines a Western scientific understanding of the body with mindfulness skills, a unique type of touch and an appreciation of the body's ability to heal itself.

BCST is a progressive therapy that embraces the latest findings in medical science and the wisdom of traditional healing arts.

The therapy has its roots in the discoveries made by Osteopath Dr William Sutherland in the late 1800s. He developed an approach to Osteopathy known as "the Cranial Concept".

These original concepts have been refined and extended to become the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy of today.

THE PRINCIPLES OF THE BIODINAMIC CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

INTELLIGENCE OF THE BODY

Your body was constructing itself during the embryonic period without any visible plans or instructions - it was just realizing your intention to live and creating itself according to the inner template. Your body always holds memories about this period: strict and elegant scheme of organization of fluids, bones, nerves, muscles, organs; tensegrity – mechanical, chemical and informational interconnections between all minor and major parts.

 

Practitioner’s orientation to the midline, symmetry or other expression of the body intelligence helps your body to connect with this inner wisdom and to regulate itself towards its original health.

RECOVERY FROM TRAUMA

Single overwhelming dramatic event (physical, emotional, chemical, etc.) or long-lasting cumulative stress can have a profound impact on our health.  

 

In case of danger human (or animal) body switches to the flight-or-fight or freeze mode. These reactions have certain physiological/behavioral features (overwhelmed sympathetic/ parasympathetic nervous system, increased/decrease blood pressure or heart rate, high/low muscle tone, emotionally: anxiety, panic, aggression/ depression, sleeping problems, etc.) Being in the safe surrounding is necessary to return to the normal state which is not so physiologically overloading and more suitable for long being. If human doesn’t have the opportunity to discharge this extreme reactive state, then the body will keep it as pattern of experience (or “trauma”) and it will impact on the work of the whole system, emotional state, etc.

 

The therapist’s embodied presence, neutral listening without intentions or judgment and orientation to resources and health creates this safe environment which is necessary for trauma resolution. Traumatized part of the body has a chance to discharge this pattern (and overstimulated nervous system) and come into the more balanced and comfortable state.

RHYTHM

All processes in the body follow certain rhythms. All connective tissues express flexion/extension cycles about 4 seconds long – Craniosacral Rhythmic Impulse. Fluids moves in a slower way – mid tide (20 seconds) and long tide (120 seconds). It all starts from the primal respiration – the first rhythm which emerges during the embryonic period. Interacting with these natural rhythms helps to synchronize the body with Breath of Life (or Biodynamic Health) – wider ordering principle in nature expressing itself at all levels – in cells, organs, organisms and systems.
